Sisi orders navy to help rescue fishermen off Sudanese coast

Egypt’s presidency ordered navy forces to head to Sudan's coasts and assist in rescue missions late Saturday. They will be searching for several Egyptian fishermen whose boat sank along the Sudanese-Eritrean borders.

The boat, which set sail from the Ezbet al-Borg village in Damietta one week ago, was carrying at least 14 fishermen, according to Egypt’s ambassador to Khartoum, Ossama Shaltout.

Hesham al-Naqib, Egypt’s assistant foreign minister for expatriate affairs, said two of the passengers have been rescued.

Egyptian fishermen from the Nile Delta and Mediterranean provinces are occasionally arrested for illegally fishing in neighboring countries' territorial waters.
