Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy congratulated on Monday tennis player Mayar Sherif after winning the BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia; a “WTA 125” tournament, held in Spain.

The minister commended the superb and excellent performance of tennis icon Sherif in the competitions.

Sherif defeated her Spanish rival Marina Bassols Ribera, 2-0 in the final.

She won the 125-point category championship, to reach the 31st rank in the world as the best Egyptian historical achievement.

Sherif previously made history after becoming the first Egyptian to qualify for two Grand Slam tournaments.

The tennis star has won eight singles titles and six doubles titles in the various international tournaments throughout the years.

She recently participated in the tennis competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Egyptian player in history to do so, but she was eliminated in the first round.
