Steel workers protest in Suez

More than 350 workers of the Egyptian Iron and Steel Company in Suez have staged a sit-in to demand the disbursement of the annual bonus and an increase in wages.

“We are demanding our legitimate rights,” said Mohamed Hamzawy, member of the company’s labor union.

Mohamed Zakaria of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions in Suez expressed solidarity with the protesters and called for responding to their demands so as not to interrupt production.

The company management refused to comment on the incident.
