Sudan detains another 20 Egyptian fishermen

Sudanese authorities detained 20 Egyptian fishermen on four fishing boats three days ago in the Osif area on the Red Sea, according to their families.

The families of the fishermen, all from the Red Sea city of Quseir, lost contact with the boats last Saturday and demanded the Presidency and the Foreign Ministry intervene with Khartoum authorities and release them.

Security sources in Quseir said that Sudanese authorities referred the fishermen to investigation, and that they have not yet decided whether to detain or release them.

An official source at the Foreign Ministry said the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum is following up the matter.

The source also added that Egypt is still in the process of releasing the 44 Sudanese prisoners that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has pardoned, as the prisoners must be gathered and deported all together.
