Suez oil company blaze kills at least 5

At least five employees were killed and others injured on Wednesday in a blaze at the Suez Company for Petroleum Manufacturing, state TV reported.

The fire ignited when one of the company’s sinks for separating oils exploded, according to state-owed news agency MENA, which put the number of people injured at eight. Authorities said a pump had burst inside the sink.

Firefighters were able to control the blaze and all of the company's other petrol lines were secured, MENA reported.

Ambulances took the injured to the medical petroleum center in the governorate and Suez Public Hospital. Two others were transferred to Cairo with severe burns.

The news website Sada al-Balad quoted Mohamed Lasheen, health director in Suez, as saying that six victims were reportedly killed.
