Supporters and opponents of Morsy’s decision gather before People’s Assembly

Supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Morsy’s decision to reconvene Parliament faced off on Qasr al-Aini Street in front of the parliament building Tuesday afternoon.

Supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party gathered at the entrance of the People’s Assembly and formed a human shield, chanting “The people want the president’s decision.”

Holding Brotherhood flags and pictures of Morsy they also chanted, “Your decision is 100 percent correct, Mr. President” and “Raise your head up, you are Egyptian. Yes to parliament."

Meanwhile, dozens of opponents gathered on the other side of the street and shouted “Down with the rule of the Supreme Guide.”

Central Security troops were deployed outside the Cabinet and on People’s Assembly Street, but did not intervene between the two groups.

The Brotherhood called for a million-man protest in Tahrir Square to support his decision, but the square was quiet on Tuesday afternoon. Only a few protesters are currently in the square, with traffic flowing smoothly.
