Swiss Attorney-General Michael Lauber arrived in Cairo on Saturday aboard a private jet, to head a delegation for talks on the frozen funds of former Mubarak-era officials in Switzerland.
Informed sources said that during his visit to Egypt, Lauber will meet with a number of senior officials and dignitaries, to discuss boosting cooperation in the judicial field and the latest developments of the case of the frozen funds belonging to symbols of the former regime in Swiss banks.
The Swiss government has extended a one-year freeze on the assets of former Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak and his relatives, amounting to 529 million euros, which expires in February 2017.
The frozen assets belong to figures linked to Mubarak. The suspects face charges of money laundering and involvement in criminal organizations, said the sources.
The list of suspects includes Mubarak and his two sons, Gamal and Alaa; his wife Suzan Thabet; businessman Hussein Salem; former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif; former Interior Minister Major General Habib al-Adli; former Tourism Minister Zuhair Garana; former Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid; former Housing Minister Ahmed al-Maghrabi; businessman Ahmed Ezz; former Finance Minister Youssef Boutros Ghali; former Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmy; former Housing Minister Mohammed Ibrahim Suleiman; former Information Minister Safwat el-Sharif; former chief of presidential staff Zakaria Azmi; and the late former Prime Minister Atef Ebeid.
