Tantawi to inaugurate 3 factories in Fayoum on Sunday

Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), will inaugurate on Sunday three factories in Fayoum as part of celebrations for the 38th anniversary of Egypt's victory in the 6 October War.

The visit comes six days after Tantawi was seen walking plain clothed in downtown Cairo, agitating activists who claimed he wants to prove he is suitable as a civilian president and aspires for a political role after the transitional period. The SCAF denied these accusations and confirmed it will hand over power to civilians after elections are held.

A military source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Tantawi's visit to Fayoum comes amid the first 6 October celebrations since the 25 January revolution.

Tantawi will be accompanied by a number of SCAF members, military leaders and the Fayoum governor, added the source.

The visit is aimed at encouraging and raising the spirits of workers, the source said.
