Toddler rapist trial set for April 4

Mansoura Criminal Court scheduled April 4 for an urgent trial session for Ibrahim Mahmoud al-Refaei, who is accused of raping a 2-year-old toddler.

The case is the fastest to be referred to court by the Public Prosecution, just four days after the crime occurred.

Refaei confessed to the crime during police interrogation. The forensic medical report also proved that the toddler had been raped.

Daqahliya security department was notified on Friday by the mother of the toddler that a 35-year-old man had abducted and raped her daughter, causing her severe vaginal bleeding.

The girl was taken to Belqas hospital for medical care and surgery, as she was in a bad condition. A police report was filed and sent to the prosecution for investigation.

The suspect was arrested while he was trying to escape. He admitted to committing the crime and was remanded into custody for 15 days pending investigations last Monday.

Investigations showed that the suspect was known to police, as he had a history of bad behaviour and frequent conflicts with his brothers.
