Truck driver broke through railway barrier: Railway Authority

Egypt's Railway Authority has blamed the drivers of a truck and minibus responsible for a train crash which left 27 dead on Monday morning.

The crash took place in Dahshur, around 40 kilometres from Cairo.

The denial of responsibility by the Railway Authority comes before public prosecutors finishing examining the crash site.

"The driver broke into the barrier, in spite of warning lights and alarms," said an authority statement. The barrier was closed at the time of the accident, it claimed.

The authority said that a special committee from the Railway Authority headed to Dahshur in Fayoum, once the incident was reported.

The committee confirmed the barrier equipment and the iron chains used to shut down were in perfect condition.
