Trump hints at Sunday trip to Egypt as Gaza peace deal ‘very close’

US President Donald Trump announced, “I may go to Egypt on Sunday,” indicating a potential trip to the region as negotiators close in on a ceasefire.

Speaking to the press late Wednesday, Trump followed up: “We are very close to reaching a Gaza agreement. Negotiations are going well, and I may go to the Middle East on Sunday.” Trump asserted that the “Gaza agreement is very close, and I just communicated with officials regarding the Gaza deal.”

He further noted the unprecedented level of regional cooperation: “All the Islamic and Arab countries are involved in this, which has never happened before.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi confirmed that negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis were currently underway in Sharm El Sheikh to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the Police Academy, Sisi stated that “Continuous Egyptian efforts are being exerted to stop the war in Gaza.” He extended special commendation to President Trump for his “true will” to conclude the war through the current negotiations.

Sisi added that “American envoys are arriving to participate in the Sharm El Sheikh negotiations with a genuine will to end the war in Gaza,” and he publicly invited President Trump to visit Egypt to sign the agreement once a deal to end the war in Gaza is reached.
