Turkey detains 6 Egyptians for illegal fishing

Turkey has detained six Egyptian fishermen who it alleges illegally entered its territorial waters for fishing purposes.

Authorities seized the boat crewed by the Egyptians as well as a large quantity of fish.

Turkish coast guard sources on Wednesday said the boat "Hagg Abbas," which had set sail from Damietta's Ezbet al-Borg, was stopped off the shores Turkey's southern city Mersin.

The Egyptian Embassy in Ankara is currently ramping up coordination efforts with Turkish authorities in an effort to immediately release and deport the arrested fishermen.
