The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday condemned the attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, stating in a press release that the assault constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.
The Council did not attribute responsibility or assign blame for the attack to any specific party.
The UAE Ministry of Defense had previously stated on May 19 that the drones used to attack the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant originated from Iraqi territory. The Ministry added that the drone which breached the UAE’s defenses struck an electrical generator located outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
Following the drone strike, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the plant remains completely safe and secure, and that no radioactive material was leaked as a result of the incident.
