Some 5,037 candidates across the country have so far applied for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the High Elections Committee (HEC) said on Friday.
About 248 people filed applications on Friday, taking the number of candidates up to 5,037, HEC Spokesman Omar Marwan said.
The deadline for applications is September 12.
Parliamentary elections were previously scheduled to take place in March, but were suspended by the Supreme Constitutional Court due to the unconstitutionality of parliamentary laws.
The polls, in October and November, will mark the third and final step of the road map, which was outlined on July 3, 2013, following the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi.
