A suicide bomber using a primitive bomb carried out the Alexandria church attack which killed 21 people, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said today.
An inspection of the site of the explosion revealed that the bomb was carried by a person who died in the attack and that it was not placed in the street or fitted to a car, the ministry said in a statement.
The bomb was primitive, containing nuts and bearings to cause as many injuries as possible. The ministry said that circumstances of the attack indicate that it was orchestrated by foreigners, adding that the values of Egyptian society do not foster violence.
The ministry had said earlier that a car belonging to a church visitor was used for the bombing.
