Zamalek addresses CAF over right to get Africa’s Club of the Century title

Zamalek Club Chairman Kamal Darwish said he had decided to officially address the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requesting the club be offered ‘Africa’s Club of the Century’ title.

Ahly Club obtained 19 continental championship, after CAF counted the Afro-Asian Cup for Ahly.

Darwish was quoted by the club’s official website on Wednesday as saying, “We will take all official measures to request Zamalek’s right, especially that when the title was approved in 2000, we explained to CAF that the Afro-Asian Cup is an official championship that should be approved, but it refused. Right Should be given to its owner. It’s Zamalek’s right and will not waive it.

Uncounting the two championships in 2000 caused the title to go to Ahly Club.

Zamalek explained that CAF officially announced that Ahly won 19 continental championships, after winning the African Super Cup last Thursday in its match with Tunisia’s Sfaxien Club. It added that all continental championships that Ahly won included African Champions League (eight times), African Cup Winners' Cup (four times), African Super Cup (six times) and Afro-Asian Cup (once).
