Ancient cemetery discovered under Alexandria house

Excavations carried out secretly by residents in Alexandria's Kom el-Shokafa area under their house led the antiquities police to discover an ancient cemetery dating back to 2,000 years ago, under the Greco-Roman era.

The same residents were arrested for digging under their house a year ago and were sentenced to one year in prison, an official source said. After they served their sentence, they started digging again, reaching 12 meters under the ground, he added.

The official said a cemetery consisting of four rooms was discovered under the house.
