Israeli defense minister storms al-Ibrahimi Mosque

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque, in Khalil City, south the Western Bank, on Tuesday amid tight security, said director of the mosque Monzer Abouel Filat.

Entry to the mosque was prevented during Ya'alon's visit for half an hour, he added.

Abouel Filat denounced the incident which comes in the framework of the Israeli occupation to turn the mosque into a Jewish synagogue, he said.

He reported altercations between Ya'alon and settlers ahead of storming the mosque.

According to Abouel Filat, the occupation forces would shut down the mosque Wednesday evening until 10 pm on Thursday to allow settlers celebrate feast on September 1.

The Jerusalem Post reported that right wing Israeli activist Baruch Marzel jumped on Ya'alon’s car outside the Ibrahimi Mosque.

"You’re an enemy of the settlers," Marzel screamed against Ya'alon before he was taken away by security forces. "You’re tough on Jews, but weak on Arabs."
