Mid-year vacation boosts occupancy rates in Hurghada

Red Sea Governor Ahmed Abdullah has indicated a 20 percent increase in number of incoming Ukranian tourists heading to the tourist destination starting February.

Tourism decision makers in Ukraine vowed to increase the number of tourists to Egypt up to one million annually, given that Egypt tops the popular destinations of Ukranian tourists.

The annual number of Ukranian tourists increased from 364,000 in 2015 to 425,000 tourists in 2016, marking 20 percent increase, he revealed.

In related news, local tourism by Egyptians on mid-year holidays refreshed occupancy rates at hotels and tourist resorts in the Red Sea for the second week in row. Offers made by tourist agencies targetted the mid-year vacation with special packages.

The price of a double room at 5-star hotels reached between LE900-LE1,300, compared to LE600-LE800 all inclusive, at 4-star hotels.

According to Ahmed Mostafa, head of the Tourism Promotion Authority in the Red Sea, the mid-year vacation is responsible for the raised occupancy rates in Hurghada.

The rates reached between 50-60 percent at hotels and tourist destinations for Hurghada, Sahl Hasheesh and El Gouna combined. The reservations made show an ongoing increase up until the end of the week.
