The committee formed to retrieve stolen funds by Mubarak-era officials, headed by the top prosecutor Nabil Sadeq, approved a reconciliation request submitted by former Industry and Trade Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid in corruption cases.
The committee approved reconciliation Monday after it checked official documents that proved Rachid was innocent of financial corruption charges brought against him, MENA reported the judicial sources as saying.
According to the sources, the official documents stated that Rachid and his family's investments were established before he took the ministerial office in 2004.
Rachid has been found guilty in some corruption lawsuits brought against him. In August 2014, he was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison over illicit gains charges.
Rachid left Egypt after the January 25, 2011, revolution which toppled President Hosni Mubarak from power.
He submitted a reconciliation request to the Illicit Gains Authority to return to the state LE500 million in return for bringing down charges against him.
Meanwhile, the Illicit Gains Authority announced in August 2016 another reconciliation deal with Mubarak-era tycoon Hussein Salem, after he agreed to waive 75 percent of his and his family's wealth.
