NCHR: No rape, torture in Qanater prison

The National Council for Human Rights released a report on Thursday stating that no female prisoner has been raped or tortured in Qanater prison.

"The report was based on testimony from some prisoners and the committee's inspection," said the report. "The group went to investigate complaints and media reports about rape and torture."

Approximately 1,600 prisoners are held in Qanater prison.

A quarrel that took place last month between inmates led to a number of injuries, according to the NCHR report. A prison guard was also injured in the incident.

According to a prisoner, one day after the quarrel, a number of inmates were stripped naked for inspection.

The NCHR called for new prisons rules to regulate relationships between prisoners.
