Supply minister seeks new strategic trade alliance with Kenya

Domestic Trade and Food Supply Minister Khaled Hanafy met on Wednesday with representatives of the Kenyan meat and tea industries for discussions on boosting bilateral trade.

Hanafy held talks with the chairmen of institutions producing Kenyan tea and the head of the Kenyan meat committee with a view to establishing an strategic partnership to boost imports of tea and meat from Kenya while opening new markets for Egyptian products in Africa.

A statement from the ministry said on Wednesday that the talks were linked to the minister's attendance of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Nairobi.

Hanafy said that “such strategic alliances with the Kenyan side are part of boosting bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in sectors of joint interest, bilateral trade, targeting new markets in Arab countries and Europe, as well as the local markets in the two countries.”

He added that Kenya has imported brown sugar from Egypt because of its high quality.
