US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that responding to Iran was “very important,” following the announcement by US Central Command (CENTCOM) that it had launched a retaliatory attack against Iranian targets.
In remarks to ABC News Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl during a phone call that coincided with CENTCOM’s announcement of the operation, Trump said, “I think it’s very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we’re responding right now.”
“I have always believed in responding forcefully, and I have followed this approach throughout my life. We have a very good agreement, and I believe it is likely to remain in place.”
Trump continued, “This operation is in response to what they did to our helicopter, and I believe the response should be very strong and decisive, and that is exactly what this strike represents.”
