Presidential front-runners Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh and Amr Moussa will appear in Egypt’s first-ever televised presidential debate on Thursday evening.

The debate will air on privately owned ONTV and Dream channels, in cooperation with privately owned dailies Al-Masry Al-Youm and Al-Shorouk. It will be managed by media professionals Mona al-Shazly and Yosri Fouda, with each presenting half of the two-part debate.

The first half will focus on the candidate’s views on the constitution and powers of the presidential office, while the second will address electoral platforms, the judiciary, security and other issues.

Each candidate will be given two minutes to answer questions. They will also be allowed to comment on each other’s responses, as well as ask their opponent one question at the end of each half of the debate.

Amr Khafagy, Amr el-Shobaki, Reem Maged and Hafez al-Mirazy will be on air at 7:30 pm before the debate begins to explain its rules.
