White House spokesman Robert Gibbs announced at a press conference on Friday that it is "absolutely not" too late Egypt's government to reform.

"Legitimate grievances must be addressed," he said, "without the use of violence," explicity condemning violence among both protesters and security forces.

"The time has come for reform," he added.

In defense of accusations that America maintained a strong alliance with a corrupt and oppressive authoritarian ruler for decades, he says, "It's not about choosing a person; it's about picking a country."
