Al-Azhar scholars: "Anger" demos don't violate religious precepts

Wed, 26/01/2011 - 20:07

Al-Azhar scholars said all religions, more than human rights organizations, provide groups and individuals the right to express themselves.

They also said the “Day of Anger” demonstrations do not violate religion.

“All religions respect people’s freedom of expression as long as they do not harm others,” said Mohamed Othman, member of the Islamic Research Academy in the US.

For his part, Gamal Qutb, former head of al-Azhar’s fatwa committee, said demonstrations of expression help direct governments on the right path.
