Users of social networking sites along with news website have been circulating an Israeli ad which they claim ‘insults’ President Mohamed Morsy.
The advertisement shows an Israeli family on the beach, with the father reading a newspaper, while his children are building temples on the sand.
The Israeli advertisement is for the Temple Institute, which promotes for rebuilding of the Temple of Solomon. The Temple of Solomon was built in the 6th century BC. It was expanded by King Herod before its destruction in 70 AD. Rebuilding the temple would likely undermine the the Al-Aqsa complex, hosting the Dome of the Rock, which is located near where the temple once stood.
The group’s website says “The Temple Institute is dedicated to every aspect of the Holy Temple of Jerusalem, and the central role it fulfilled, and will once again fulfill, in the spiritual wellbeing of both Israel and all the nations of the world.”
After they built the temple, the father throws the paper, which falls at his feet showing an image for Morsy.
Some users allege that the symbolic message is that the Egyptian president will not prevent Israel from building temples
The video was posted on YouTube 19 July 2012 and has a caption that reads “Two children change the world while their father reads the newspaper.”
The Muslim Brotherhood, which was illegal and repressed under Mubarak, is extremely outspoken of Israel. Hamas, the Palestinian branch of the group, rules the Gaza Strip and hailed Morsy’s victory. Israelis are very anxious of what political changes Morsy’s presidency could bring to Israel’s relationship with Egypt, including the future of the Camp David Accords. Morsy has said he would respect the treaty.
