Christian woman wins LE40,000 in religious research competition

The Endowments Ministry on Tuesday announced that a Christian medical student has placed second in a research competition sponsored by the ministry.

Silvana Nasseef Awad, 19, from Sharqiya wrote a research paper on the pros and cons of the 25 January revolution, ministry spokesperson Salama Abdel Qawy told reporters Wednesday. Awad will receive LE40,000 and a certificate of recognition.

President Mohamed Morsy will present the awards to Awad and other winners in a ceremony to be held on Thursday in celebration of Prophet Mohamed's birthday.

The spokesperson also added that the award money was doubled this year to encourage participants to learn about religion.
