Court rejects Mubarak’s sons request demanding judge replacement

Cairo Court of Appeals has rejected the complaint presented by the sons of the toppled President Hosni Mubarak, Gamal and Alaa, against the investigating judge of the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA), Ossama abu Safy.

According to the complaint, a feud exists between the defendants and the judge, which prompted the defence lawyer to file a request demanding the judge's replacement on. He accused the judge of sending Alaa and Gamal into custody in June 2014 pending investigations carried out by another judge, which were proven incorrect.

Alaa and Gamal were released in January after being detained for almost four years since the 2011 revolution. They still face retrial over charges of corruption and manipulating the stock market. The remaining charges against them have been dropped.
