Egypt, S. Sudan agree on integral program to support development projects

Egypt and South Sudan have agreed on drawing up an integral executive program to support development projects in South Sudan in the fields of health, urban planning and water resources.

During a meeting held on Tuesday between a visiting Egyptian delegation led by Irrigation Minister Hossam  El-Moghazi and a government delegation led by Minister of Cabinet Affairs Martin Elia Lomuro, the two sides reviewed ways to enhance cooperation and partnership and activate agreements that had been already reached during the recent visit to Egypt by South Sudan President Salva Kiir.
The Egyptian delegation represents the ministries of irrigation, housing and health.
Moghazi said that they agreed on the prompt implementation of a number of urgent projects to meet the needs of the South Sudanese government.

The projects include establishing a fish farm in the Juba for increasing fish production and training the cadres of South Sudan people.

Moghazi added that bilateral action committees have been formed in various fields to draw up plans for implementing the agreements and resuming standing projects.

South Sudan represents Egypt's strategic depth and Egypt will spare no effort to support it, he stressed.

He also voiced hope that cooperation and investment will be increased over the coming few years, adding that the government of South Sudan pledged to eliminate all obstacles facing Egyptian projects.

The visit aims at activating the technical and development cooperation agreement signed between the ministries of electricity and water resources in Egypt and South Sudan, he said.

Moghazi also said that developing the Nile River route will save 30 billion cubic meters of water for the Nile Basin countries.

He said that the water projects between Egypt and South Sudan show the real integration between the two countries.

This integration would help achieve the mutual interests in the present and the future, according to Moghazi.

During his inspection of a laboratory set up by Egypt for analyzing the quality of the surface and groundwater, Moghazi  noted that dispatching a number of Egyptian engineers to work in the water projects there is strong evidence that Egypt would restore its position in Africa .

" Egypt appreciates African countries' endeavors to build dams on their land, but this should not harm Egypt 's interests," the minister summed up.
