ElBaradei launches national front for constitutional change

Mohamed ElBaradei, former chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency and potential candidate in next year's presidential elections, held a meeting with opposition representatives on Wednesday.

At the meeting, ElBaradei announced the launch of a national front tasked with promoting constitutional change and the abolition of Egypt's longstanding emergency law.

ElBaradei initially wanted to postpone the organization's launch, but later changed his mind upon the insistence of opposition representatives. "But I won't start campaigning before I have a comprehensive plan of action," he said.

Meanwhile, British daily The Times on Wednesday reported that, while most Egyptians were largely unacquainted with ElBaradei, they were nevertheless "yearning for anyone other than Gamal Mubarak, son of President Hosni Mubarak, who is expected to succeed his father."

The paper went on to advise ElBaradei to exercise restraint, lest he end up in prison.
