Buses belonging to the Freedom and Justice Party were attacked on their way from Sharqiya to Cairo to participate in demonstrations supporting President Mohamed Morsy Tuesday, injuring six.

The assailants attacked the buses with stones and forced them to stop before attacking the passengers.

The secretary general of the FJP in Sharqiya, Ahmed Shehata, said the buses were “surprised by a group of thugs” on the Belbais-Cairo desert road, near Salam City.

Some passengers chased the attackers until they reached the outskirts of Salam City, Shehata said.

Different political forces staged mass demonstrations for and against President Mohamed Morsy in Cairo Tuesday, as well as in other governorates across the country. Anti-Morsy protesters staged protests in the vicinity of the presidential palace against the referendum on the new constitution draft slated for Saturday, while Islamists staged demonstrations in nearby Nasr City expressing their support for Morsy’s decisions.
