Interior Ministry to launch police information satellite channel

The Interior Ministry will launch a satellite channel to provide better information about police services, Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin said.

Gamal Eddin told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the channel would aim for better interaction between citizens and police. The channel “will be concerned with ordinary citizens and will explain their rights and duties when dealing with the security apparatus,” he said, adding that the channel would not be a commercial endeavor and that its goal would not be to merely demonstrate police efforts.

Gamal Eddin added that the channel would broadcast content instructing citizens on how to communicate with the police and what to do when a fire breaks out, as well as programming intended to raise awareness of the law.

Gamal Eddin said efforts are under way to launch the channel as soon as possible.

Reform of the security sector has been a prominent public demand since the 25 January revolution, and President Mohamed Morsy promised to address the issue after being elected in June.
