Investor: 60% of hotel guests in Eid al-Fitr are Egyptians

The hotel occupancy rate in Egypt during Eid al-Fitr holidays is expected to reach 100 percent in most tourist cities, especially Sharm al-Sheikh, Hurghada and Marsa Alam. 60 percent of the guests are expected to be Egyptians, according to Atef Abdellatif, a member of the Marsa Alam and South Sinai investor assemblies.

Abdellatif added that this trend is due to Egyptians spending the Eid holiday in hotels, as companies and government departments organize trips for their employees.

He also stressed that the recent bombing of the Italian Consulate has not had an impact on tourism in Egypt.

"We have contacted the tour operators who emphasized the stability of the situation, and they do not plan to cancel any tours to Egypt," said Abdellatif.

The Italian government and Italian president understand the nature of the situation in Egypt, and fully support Egypt, which was demonstrated by the visit of the Italian Foreign Minister to Egypt and his meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The meeting had a positive impact on maintaining the rates of Italian tourism steady, he added.

Occupancy rates are currently the highest in coastal cities and are expected to reach 100 percent on the first day of Eid al-Fitr. The occupancy rate in Sherm al-Sheikh is currently 54 percent, in Dahab 21 percent, in Marsa Alam 50 percent, in Hurghada 83 percent, in Taba 17 percent, in Nuweiba 6 percent, and in Luxor and Aswan 3-5 percent.
