In a historic announcement on Friday, Vice President Omar Suleiman said President Hosni Mubarak had resigned and given power to the Supreme Council of Armed Forces.

Tahrir Square erupted for the second time after last night's rumors that Mubarak would resign.

Just one day after Mubarak reiterated statements that he would die on Egypt's soil and 18 days after popular protests swept the nation, Suleiman appeared on state television Friday at 6PM to make the brief, but long-awaited announcement.

Earlier in the day, media sources said Mubarak had flown to Sharm el-Sheikh and his belongings had arrived at the presidential offices there.
