Egypt's ailing ex-President Hosni Mubarak has not yet been checked by any foreign medical teams, according to statements made by Health Minister Ashraf Hatem on Tuesday.

Hatem said Markus Wolfgang Buchler, a German doctor who has been in Cairo since 22 June, is expected to examine the former head of state. Buchler, according to Hatem, is conducting medical checks on other patients at a private hospital in Nasr City.

Permission for such medical visits, Hatem said, is up to the public prosecutor.

Mubarak’s lawyer, Farid al-Deeb, said earlier this month the ousted president may have stomach cancer. He requested Buchler's medical team, which performed surgery on Mubarak in Germany last year, be summoned to check on his health.

Mubarak has been hospitalized at the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh since April. He is currently in state custody pending investigation into charges of financial corruption and murdering protesters during the 25 January revolution that ended his 30-year rule.
