The family of Omar Abdel Rahman, the Jama’a al-Islamiya leader serving a life sentence in the United States, plans to stage protests outside the Court Complex in New Cairo on Tuesday to coincide with the court hearing of the foreign funding case.

The family said it intends to relay a message to the American administration and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that US democracy is a farce and the US judiciary is unjust, according to Abdel Rahman’s son, Abdallah.

“When President Mohamed Morsy said in his famous speech in Tahrir Square that Abdel Rahman’s case is his top priority, Clinton's response was that he was sentenced by a just verdict,” he said.

“We tell Clinton if she respects her judiciary, why does she not respect ours,” he added. “She took the Americans who were being tried in the foreign funding case out of Egypt in violation of all international norms and conventions.”

He called on President Morsy not to forget his father. “Bringing him back is restoring the dignity of Egyptians,” he said. “It would be a triumph for the revolution that my father is closely tied to.”

“The president’s office called me several times to tell me Morsy is personally concerned with my father’s case,” he said.
