A power outage at a station in an Aswan village on Wednesday caused water from a nearby canal to flood about 15 houses in the village. The village is named Wadi Al-Naqra and is located near Abu Simbel, a popular tourist destination.

The water rose to half a meter in the village where most houses are built with bricks. No casualties were reported.

The governor reported the incident to the prosecution and demanded that those responsible be brought to account. He also ordered the restoration of the houses at government expense, and called on the Civil Defense Authority to build emergency dams to stop the influx of water.

He also said the government would compensate residents for any losses.
