Russia lifts travel ban on Egypt

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday it lifted its ban on traveling to tourist destinations in Egypt, following the end of the state of emergency and curfew in mid-November.

The Russian Novosti news agency said in a statement issued by the ministry that "the situation in Egypt is getting stable after the end of the state of emergency. Egyptian authorities will provide the necessary security at Red Sea resorts.”

The ministry added that the “current situation in Egypt does not ban visits by Russians to Red Sea tourist areas.”

However, it added “due to the difficult situation in some areas of the country, including Cairo and major cities, as a result of protests, clashes among protesters, security and police, the Foreign Ministry warns against leaving tourist resorts and refraining from visiting urban areas, where the danger of terrorism still exists.”
