The permanent committee of Coptic and Islamic antiquities approved renovation of Al-Azhar mosque and the surrounding area inside the wall of the mosque as well as the building housing the bathrooms.
Mostafa Amin, head of the committee, said that the Saudi Binladin group earlier submitted researches on restoring the mosque.
“The project is technically integral as for the constructional and architectural studies,” he said stressing necessity to “rebuild the bathrooms that are attached to the mosque to serve the visitors and worshippers.”
“The reconstruction process will stay true to the archaeological nature of the mosque without harming the building. The finance will be offered from Saudi Arabia,” Amin added.
