Sisi likens his situation to De Gaulle in French radio interview

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has likened his difficult situation ruling Egypt to that of France's President Charles de Gaulle, who led the French resistance against the Nazis in World War II.

In an interview with the French radio station Europe 1 on Tuesday, Sisi said de Gaulle ruled France in a critical stage and achieved great success.

“I cannot compare myself to this great leader, but I hope to succeed in the challenge facing Egypt now as he succeeded in the challenges that faced France,” he said.

When asked if he would like to be like Nasser or Sadat, he said historical figures cannot be repeated. “I am a simple Egyptian who hopes to achieve something important for his country,” he said.
