Late on Saturday teachers protesting before the cabinet building announced they would suspend their open-ended strike for one week, following a request made by the Independent Teachers Syndicate (ITS).

Thousands of teachers protested on Saturday outside the cabinet on Qasr al-Aini Street in Garden City.

They denounced the Education Ministry’s reluctance to consider their demands.

“The suspension of the strike came after the cabinet announced it will examine the teachers' demands during its meeting on Sunday,” said head of the ITS Hassan Ahmed on Saturday.

Better salaries, public education reforms, unified policies for the education system, and school and syllabus development are among the teachers' demands, in addition to sacking corrupt figures in the ministry.
