Tourism costs to increase post new fuel prices

Egyptian tourism experts have said that the spike in fuel costs will raise accommodation prices at hotels and tourist resorts by 10-20 percent.

Hossam al-Shaer, head of the Tourism Agencies Chamber, said officials must set the minimum rate for prices of tourist rooms at all tourist cities, especially at 4-star and 5-star hotels.

He also urged penalizing those who violate rules and proposed that prices be renewed every tourist season.

Mohamed al-Hawary, operation manager at a tourist agency, said the fuel price increase decision will lead to losses of old contracts with foreign trip organizers. He called for increasing petroleum substances, especially diesel oil, provided to hotel and tourist facilities.

Ibrahim al-Hout, owner of a diving center in Hurghada, said new fuel prices will raise costs for divers by 10-25 percent as yachts depend on diesel fuel.
