Cairo International Airport sources on Sunday said inclement weather has forced authorities to divert two flights bound for Cairo to Alexandria. Two additional flights, scheduled to run between Cairo and Hurghada, were also canceled.

Alexandria airport authorities transferred passengers of one flight from Casablanca and one flight from Kuwait City to Cairo via buses after each flight was diverted.

Sandstorms and rainfall, starting on Saturday, have prompted airport officials across the region to divert and delay flights.

One flight originating in Addis Ababa and bound for Tel Aviv landed in Cairo after Israeli authorities shut down Ben Gurion International Airport.

Jordanian airlines canceled all flights to and from Cairo after one Jordanian flight was delayed.

Libyan and Sudanese flights were also delayed at Tripoli and Port Sudan airports.
