11 suspects sentence to prison, other fined over violence on third anniversary of January revolution

Maadi Misdemeanor Court sentenced 11 suspects to two years in prison with labor and to be monitored by police for the same duration after being released, over charges of involvement in violence on the third anniversary of the 25 January revolution.

The court also fined six others with LE50,000 and another three with LE100,000. The suspects face charges of thuggery and impeding metro traffic.

South Cairo prosecution had earlier referred the 11 detained suspects and other free nine suspects to court for impeding public transportation.

Prosecution accused the suspects of using force and violence, protesting in a way that harms public order, attacking police and intimidating citizens.

Several Muslim Brotherhood supporters joined university students in staging a march in Maadi during celebrations of the January revolution. They allegedly attacked police, which called for dispersing their march. They were arrested and referred to prosecution for investigations.
