Two people were killed, other seven were injured in road accident early on Wednesday in Gharbiya.

It was revealed that a car driver lost control over the steering wheel as a motorbike without a license plate tried suddenly to veer onto the roadway. Trying to evade it, the car was hit by an oncoming truck before falling into the canal, on the side of the road.

The accident caused the death of the car driver and another person. The motorbike, truck drivers as well as five others who were on board of the car were injured. All were transferred to hospitals of Tanta and Bassioun.

Major General Osama Bedeir, Gharbiya security chief, was notified that car accident took place on Tanta-Bassioun road.

Nearly 100,000 car accidents took place from 2008 to 2012, leaving nearly 33,000 dead and 155,000 injured, according to a government report released in March.

Traffic accidents are usually blamed on impetuous driving and bad road conditions.
