21 Egyptian captives in Libya to arrive in Cairo Tuesday: sources

Twenty-one Egyptian workers who were being held captive in Libya will arrive at Cairo International Airport on Tuesday, official sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The 21 Egyptians who were abducted by militants in Libya on December 31 have been released, said the sources.

The freed captives were supposed to arrive on a private plane on Monday in Cairo, but bad weather adjourned their flight to Tuesday, according to the sources.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday that Egypt's ambassador to Libya, who is currently in Cairo, coordinated with the Libyan authorities for the release of the detained Egyptians in cooperation with the local authorities and the elders of the city of Zalla where the 21 Egyptians resided, Aswat Masriya reported.

The victims were reportedly detained by Isamic State militants.
