5 fall to H1N1 in one day; death toll hits 39

Five people in different parts of the country reportedly succumbed to the H1N1 virus, commonly known as "swine flu," on Thursday. The first fatality was that of 22-year-old Mushira Abdel Wahab from the Upper Egyptian city of Beni Sueif.

According to Amr Qandil, head of preventive medicine department at the Health Ministry, Abdel Wahab–who was in the advanced stages of pregnancy–had already been suffering heart complications.

Four other fatalities were reported on the same day in four different cities, bringing the total death toll in Egypt to 39.

In a related development, five more classes in different schools in Cairo were temporarily closed for 15 days after H1N1 infections were detected among students.
