54 Egyptians arrive in Cairo after being deported from Malta

Fifty-four Egyptian nationals arrived at the Cairo International Airport from Malta on Saturday after they were arrested for illegally entered the Mediterranean island.

They arrived in Malta and Gozo last Saturday, taking two boats from an Egyptian port on the Mediterranean. They were reportedly heading to Italy.

The Egyptian Embassy in Malta persuaded Maltese authorities not to put them on trial since they were en route to another country.

The embassy sheltered them and issued them the necessary travel documents so they could fly back home.
