A doctor among the team working on a new device of the Armed Forces engineering authority to diagnose Coronavirus said the device, dubbed “Co-Fast,” works with electromagnetic waves without taking samples from patients.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the doctor said the device, which is in its final touches stage, will be used to diagnose the three suspected cases that are in the Abbasiya Hospital.
He assured the device was different from that of Hepatitis C and AIDS far-fetched “cure” which was also invented by General Ahmad Amin.
The armed forces had previously claimed Amin's invention could diagnose and cure the Hepatitis C and AIDS. Video demonstrations of the device showed an antenna attached to a handle, which the armed forces claimed could cure if pointed at patients. The device, however, never went through the proper scientific channels, such as publishing the data to allow other scientific institutions to test it, but nonetheless the army simply claimed its success, causing it to fall under not only heavy criticism from the scientific community, but ridicule from foreign media.
Health Minister Adel al-Adawy said the government tries new methods to protect patients. “Results of discoveries would be announced in due time,” he said.
Health Ministry officials said the device saves a lot of money, as the traditional test analysis costs from LE700 to LE1,000 was conducted on 10,000 cases so far.
The source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the Health Ministry had earlier requested the authority to consider inventing a device to diagnose the virus after the appearance of the first infected case coming from Saudi Arabia.
The source added that the device was operated last Thursday on a patient who had arrived from Saudi Arabia last week.
The device will be used to treat several more cases before obtaining the ministry's approval, the source said.
Egypt declared that a Coronavirus case had arrived from Saudi Arabia in addition to five others believed to have been infected with Coronavirus by the end of April.
